The way to love someone
is to lightly run your finger over that person's soul
until you find a crack,
and then gently pour your love into that crack.

squirrel-ly

Isn't that as cute a little bushy tailed squirrel as you'd ever hope to see?

As squirrel go, he is just adorable.  I hung that bird feeder there with the expectation that it would be out of reach for all but fly up patrons.  It is as far away from the deck railing as it can be while still allowing me the tippy-toed ability to refill as needed.

From what I can see this little guy's life consists entirely of monitoring the white beast's activities in anticipation of neglectful moments which might allow stealthy positioning on the railing nearest to the suspended buffet.  Once correctly positioned, and that takes some doing, this little scoundrel will take a leap of faith.  He has recently worked out all the details.  The feeder is frequently emptied.

I have wished at times that we had squirrels in our neighborhood - it's been a long time since I lived somewhere with enough trees to encourage them. But since my newfound bird watching hobby I'm very grateful for their absence!

They are so industrious! There are regular squirrels all around here and black squirrels that the locals call "rock squirrels". They look a bit like they've been down in the mines!

I have wondered why them being on the feeder is a bit of a no-no ... I put the food out there to feed birds, why can't part of the enjoyment be in watching the squirrels antics? They sure do work harder for it then the birds do.

This morning before I even got out of bed I saw a pair of cardinals enjoying the feeder. The male seemed to be on the look out while the female enjoyed a leisurely meal.
